In a world where the media has focused so much on the negative, we cannot forget the positive. We live in an era that is statistically safer than ever before. There are countless people who save lives each and every day to make this happen: nurses, doctors, paramedics, firefighters, police officers. I count myself lucky to have family and friends who wake up every day to help others. While there are, and will be, individuals who give their occupation a bad name, we cannot scapegoat entire professions; we must remember the majority who live and breathe to make our lives better.
Today, Cole and I decided to show our appreciation for the West Hartford Police Department. I reached out to a friend from high school, Tommy, who is a member of the WHPD, and asked what he thought the officers might like tonight: coffee, donuts, cupcakes, pizza? Turns out, the officers enjoy pizza. Tommy left my name at the front desk, and the officer who received our pizza was super grateful: he called back to announce, "The pizza is here!" to which we heard his colleagues saying, "Pie's here? Where's it from? I'll get the guys!"
We took a moment to take pictures with Officer AJ, and expressed our gratitude for what he and his fellow officers do: they get up every day and put their lives on the line for us. Though this is just a small gesture, we want the WHPD and other officers to know that we appreciate you and all that you do.
