Nearly 780 feet up (about 30 feet higher than the skywalk) we found the Top of the Hub on the 52nd floor of the Prudential Center. We came here for an ultra-high, rotating view of the city of Boston. We were both super excited to explore this with the Wisemans, as we have never been in a rotating restaurant.
We walked in and I could feel myself tilting out as we walked to our table. I'm not sure I have ever been higher than a 2nd story in Boston, so this was a real treat. We could see the Charles as it flowed into the ocean. The chaotic layout of the 1700 city planners was laid bare below us. I looked out at the housing and admired the city's flow. I looked, and I watched, and I waited for another view of the city as the restaurant turned; a view that I never got.
Turns out, the "360-degree view of Boston" was more referring to the fact that you could walk around the restaurant to see the city, and it was not referring to anything spinning. Anything that I felt, turned out it was solely in my head.
Now, to be clear, this did not discourage us in the slightest. It just turned out to be a bit of a curveball. It was still the first time that we had been that high in Boston and it was certainly the first time that we had a view this great. We all got a drink and got to just relax. We couldn't do more than one drink with $15-$23 price tags, but the cheese platter we got on the side was amazing. Aaron turned out to know his cheese.
A quick Lyft later, we found ourselves in the North End in front of a restaurant I have wanted to take Ellaine to for some time. The Daily Catch prides themselves on super fresh seafood cooked simply. They only have 20 seats in the restaurant so there is often a line. We bunched in as numbers 7-10 in line and were very excited about how lucky we got on a Friday to find such a short line. As it turned out, there were a few family members standing to the side, so we wound up being about 30 spots further than we thought. We would not be deterred as this was another first for the group (second for me) and we didn't want to miss it; Aaron and Kellis can't get seafood like this in North Carolina. More than one drunk individual passed us in line telling us how good it was. So we sat through two complete turnovers of every seat, and finally got to enjoy some great seafood. The up-side of being the last into a popular restaurant is that we were able to lounge and truly enjoy our meal without rushing. We told more stories and enjoyed our night off of not having to worry about work tomorrow. After dinner we went over to Mike's Pastry for the cannoli we had been discussing all night. Upon walking in though, we each told the other person to "go ahead" as we were each so full from dinner. We didn't end up ordering a single cannoli and just walked out of the store laughing about it.
It was a really great night overall. We had another great night with the Wisemans. It has been nearly 10 years that I've known Aaron, and it is a true testament to his character that we have stayed in touch through the years. We are lucky to know them both.
