Day 18: Here's Looking at You, Kid

"Cole, we're running out of time for today, we need to do our new thing before time runs out.  If we don't, we'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of our lives."

While the line was a little dramatic, I knew she was right. We had attempted another item on our list, only to find we were ill-prepared to take on that particular task (it's still coming, don't worry). With Ellaine stretching herself so far for me with our other firsts, it was fitting to push myself for her. So with only a few hours left in the day, we settled in to watch the Most Romantic Movie of All Time for the first time.

To my knowledge, I have never watched any film set before 1950 except for the Wizard of Oz. Generally, I don't like the pace, the filmography, or the dialogue. Or at least I didn't think I would. I guess it's kind of hard to say these things without really giving them a shot. What we sat down to was a well-written, well-acted story set in early WWII Morroco. The characters presented were witty and I found myself laughing in multiple scenes.

The romance itself was touching. {Spoiler Alert} Rick had closed himself off to the rest of the world due to being spurned by a lover he could never forget. And with one of my favorite lines that I never knew was from this movie, she walked back into his life, "Of all the gin joints in all the world, she walks into mine." Watching him wrestle with forgiveness, empathy, and the flame that never went out made for some solid entertainment.

The two are close to each other as if about to kiss.I loved the classic theme presented, weighing how far one will go for the love of their life, if that love can only be one sided. Very Shakespearian. I gained the greatest satisfaction from this as the love of my life was right next to me, and I know how much we will do for each other.

So off we walk into the fog of life together and we'll embrace whatever is ahead of us. Ellaine, I think that this is the beginning of a beautiful marriage, I look forward to what may come.
